A fatal accident involving a school bus and a commercial motorcycle has claimed the life of a 300 level Law Student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife, identified as Mary Ibitolu.
Sources said the accident occurred in front of Osogbo High School, along Iwo/Osogbo road in Osogbo, Osun State capital.
It was learnt that a bus belonging to Muslim Girls Model College, Onibu-Eja, Osogb, had broken down along the road and was being repaired.
After the repair work was completed, it was gathered that the driver moved the vehicle, but suddenly lost control of the break and ran into a commercial motorcycle conveying Mary, in the process injuring her and the cyclist.
An eyewitness, who owns a shop near the scene of the accident, who preferred anonymity, said after the repair work on the faulty bus was completed, some passersby had helped the driver to push and set it on motion, because its engine did not start.
She further explained that the break system of the bus failed to function, as his efforts to stop the vehicle failed.
She added that the deceased was rushed to Muslim Hospital, Oke-Fia, where she eventually gave up the ghost.
Some mates of the deceased described her as an easy-going student, adding that she recently completed her 200 level at the Faculty of Law and was expected to resume on May 31 for the 300 level.
It was further gathered that the school bus and the motorcycle involved in the accident had been impounded by the police and taken to Dada Estate Divisional Area Office of the police.
