Obama Speaks to Nigerians, Seeks Violence-Free Poll

President Barack Obama has in a new video released by the US Government on Monday asked Nigerians to shun violence in Saturday’s presidential poll.

The US President was speaking for the first time on Nigeria’s elections.

He said he was looking forward to the election. Obama said Nigeria is a great country and that the people can make it greater by their actions.

He said for election to be credible, it must be free and fair. “The people must be able to cast their votes without fear and intimidation. Violence has no place in elections.”

He enjoined the political actors and all Nigerians to help keep the peace no matter who wins, adding that as they say in Nigeria, to keep Nigeria one is a task that must be won.

Speaking on Boko Haram, he said it was a terrible terrorist group, which must be defeated.
