Members of Akwa Ibom Community in Oyo State have been admonished to be peace-loving and cooperate with the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde in order to move the state to greater heights.
The admonition was given by the Akwa Ibom monarch in the state, Edidem Etim Bassey Akanyak (ARSM), during the inauguration of new Council of Elders at the palace of the monarch in Ibadan.
The Obong in his address said the intention was to expand the council for more effective collaboration and development, as well as form a common front for members of Akwa Ibom community in the state.
According to him, the step became inevitable in order to liberate and improve the standard of members of the community professionally and otherwise.
He urged the newly inaugurated Elders Council to be of good conduct and work hard to justify the essence of their new office.
Speaking, the Chairman of the council Barr I. U. Ikpangeto, said it was high time the community come together to turn the table round for an all-round development.
He highlighted several achievements recorded since the emergence of the Obong Iberedem which included the provision of scholarship to deserving students, free vocational training in the areas of fashion design, electrical engineering, hairdressing, inverter and solar energy installation and repairs, mechanical engineering, aluminum fabrication, driving and many others.
The secretary to the council, Dr M. O. Akpan appealed for corporation and synergy among all and sundry.
Elder Akpabio Inyang Etefia who responded on behalf of the new elders assured all the people of Akwa Ibom State of their willingness to work for the unity and progress of the people.
Those inaugurated at the event were, Emmanuel Peter Umana, Akpabio Inyang Etefia, Raphael Ndarake, Patrick Umoakah, Chief Nsikak Okon and Sylvanus Bassey.
Other members of the council present were, Barr, I. U. Ikpangeto- Chairman, Dr. M. O. Akpan- Secretary, Chief Emmanuel Etuk and Dr. E. P. Akpan-Treasurer.
Also present were, President of Akwa Ibom State community, Oyo State, Mr Uwem Ndarake, Comrade Dr Udoro Efre, Youth Leader, Engr Solomon Peter, Mr Simeon Ekanem, Deaconess Emem Etuk and all the community youth leaders, women leaders, friends and well-wishers.
