The Obong Iberedem Akwa Ibom in Oyo State, His Royal
Majesty, Edidem Etim Bassey Akanyak has admonished Akwa Ibom youths residents in the state to sustain their culture as a way of promoting the rich cultural heritage of Akwa Ibom State both at home and in the Diaspora.
The Obong gave the admonition while playing hosting to Akwa Ibom State Youth Assembly (AKISYA) who paid an advocacy visit to his Palace last weekend.
The Royal Father said there is the need for them to participate in Akwa Ibom programmes, which by so doing will make them more enlightened on issues that have to do with culture and traditions of Akwa Ibom.
The monarch while encouraging the youths to consider marriage among Akwa Ibomites as part of sustenance of Akwa Ibom culture and values urged them to toe the path of peace, discipline and self development in order to achieve bright future.
“Akwa Ibom State Youth Assembly is an association of Akwa Ibom youths, mainly students, Youth Corps and artisans whose main mission is to bridge the gap between the younger ones and the elders, therefore, as your father and royal father, I charge you to develop your self, be up and doing and sustain your cultural values and heritage.”
I also want to encourage you to be good ambassador of Akwa Ibom in Oyo State worthy of emulation. I believe the you are going to shine and make all Akwa Ibomites in the state, home and abroad proud”.
The palace receive visitors which include officers of National Association of South South Students Union(NASSU), University of Ibadan and Polytechnic Ibadan Chapters, and members of the Elders Council, Palace Committee and executive council of Akwa Ibom State Community, Oyo State.
Speaking at the programme, Special Assistant on Media and Chieftaincy Affairs to the council, UtibeAbasi Umoren said the advocacy visit and other programmes are part of the pre- Akwa Ibom Day activities to herald the main event in December, 2019.
