An 80-year-old man, Bakare Adeyemi has been dragged before an Osun Magistrate’s court sitting in Osogbo, for allegedly duping a land buyer.
Adeyemi who was arraigned on two-count charges bothering on defrauding and stealing pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
The prosecution, A.S.P Fagboyinbo, told the court that the accused person did fraudulently obtained the sum of N350,000 from one Kazeem Mohammed, with the intent of selling a plot of land for him knowing fully well it was false.
He said the offence was committed in the year 2015 at Temidire Atura Quarters Ido- Osun.
According to the Prosecutor, the offence committed is contrary to and punishable under sections 419 and 390(9) of the criminal code cap 34 Vol. 2 of the Laws of Osun State, Nigeria 2002.
Defence counsel, Olaoluwa Fagbewese, prayed the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms.
But the Prosecutor objected the oral bail application claiming that Adeyemi was aware that the land is in dispute before selling it to Kazeem.
Fagbewese, told the court that the case had been ongoing in the High Court which was unknown to the defendant adding that the accused had no intention of defrauding Kazeem.
The Presiding Magistrate, Ishola Omishade, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties.
Omishade thereafter transferred the matter to Magistrate court II, Osogbo for hearing on March 3, 2021.
