OGSG Harps on Environment Laws For Factories

Ogun State Government says there is no going back on its monitoring exercise aimed at clamping down on factories that fail to comply with the State environmental laws.

The Coordinator of the Environmental Task Force in the Ministry of Environment, Engr. Kunle Adeotan, represented by Mrs. Mary Adeosun, stated this during the monitoring exercise of factories in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the State.

Adeotan stressed that the purpose of the monitoring was to assess the level of compliance of firms to environmental laws and to advise them on necessary measures to be put in place.

He said some of the factories visited were culpable of various offences ranging from lack of fumigation, fitness certificates for their cooks, lack of drainage system, poor housekeeping, oil spillage, inability to produce borehole permits, noise pollution and other related environmental offences, urging them to make their surroundings tidy to avert industrial hazards.

The Task Force Coordinator added that the Ministry of Environment would not hesitate to punish erring companies that cause environmental nuisance, explaining that 21 days abatement notice had been given to the affected factories to carry out the required
