The Ogun State gubernatorial candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the March 9, governorship election, Eniola Tasanya Martins has promised innovative, purposeful and transparent leadership in the state, if voted into power.

Martins, who made the promised in an interview with WESTERNPOST in Abeokuta; the Ogun State capital, described the the forthcoming election as a critical point in the state, positing that  a decision has to be taken for the good governance of the state.

She added that her party will bring integrity, honesty, sincerity of purpose into governance in Ogun State, stressing that with integrity and good governance the state will be moved the the next level.

She promised to build the capacity of the people, especially the widows and orphans.

“I want to see how our widows and orphans who havebeen neglected and whose cry our God in heaven has heard, how to beable to give them a meaningful and purposeful life”.

She said, “I will also love to improve the standard of living of our widows; these women are suffering without any basic support for themselves or their children. “That is why most of them, their daughters have gone into prostitution”.

“We shall develop our agriculture. Though everybody talks about this, but for us, we shall give a lot of attention to it to make it attractive to the young and old. We have a lot of land here and we are very close to the biggest market in the continent, which is Lagos.

“We have bitumen. We are also a littoral state bordering the Atlantic Ocean and have potentials of developing Free Trade Zones. We shall work with private investors to enhance our economy and get job for our people”.

Martins added, “Another programme we have in mind is about social services, such as education, health and rural roads. We shall overhaul our education system to give a strong foundation to the next generation, especially in the area of primary education and secondary
education.

“Under health, we shall do more on preventive health. Of course, our hospitals and primary health care centres will be upgraded from mere consulting clinics, which they currently, are while we shall provide enough drugs at highly subsidized rates. We shall ensure our people have access to medicare, wherever they live.

“On rural roads, what we have now is expansion of urban roads, most of which, in our opinion, are being done at heart-breaking cost. Majority of our people live in rural communities and have been neglected in the last three and half years.

“Women and youths, who constitute two-third of our population. When we talk of our women, we are not talking about highbrow, degree-holding women; we are talking about average woman in the streets and villages, who is involved in petty trading. The concern is how they will get basic things.

“The AAC government shall revive all business projects that have potentials of expanding our economy and providing jobs for our people.

She said, “if I am elected governor of this state, my administration will give special attention to education in the state. I will ensure prompt payment of salaries and other entitlements of teachers in primary and secondary schools.

“All allocations and other support required in our educational sector that will make it envy of other states will be provided by our administration”, she said.
