The Ogun State House of Assembly has directed the state chapter of Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to adhere strictly to the “One Week On, One Week Off” agreement in their operations pending the verdict by the National Industrial Court.
The Assembly’s Standing Committee on Transportation led by Honourable Isreal Jolaosho, gave the directive during a peace meeting with the unions and the managements of Park and Garages Development Board (PAGADEB) and the state’s Internal Revenue Service at the instance of the State House of Assembly on the regularization of toll collection in park and garages across the state.
Jolaosho and other honourable members including, Mojeed Soyebo, Akinpelu Aina, Olawale Alausa, Adewale Ojuri, Adeyemi Harrison, Victor Fasanya, Julianah Akintayo and Yetunde Adekanbi-Sogbein said that the meeting was held as part of the Assembly’s quasi-judicial function to maintain peaceful co-existence among all transport unions in the state.
“The Assembly will not in any way interfere with the functions of the industrial court but we are committed to ensuring peaceful inter-relationship amongst the various transport unions in the garages across the state,” the chairman explained.
Earlier, the chairman, PAGADEB, Alhaji Ayo Ogunsolu, remarked that the “one week on / on week off was an agreement that had been in operation for over thirteen years, adding that the union in operation for any week would take full charge of all operations without any area of exemption.”
