Ogun Authenticates Baale

The Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko has disclosed that the ministry has commenced the compilation of lists of village chiefs (Baales) across the 20 Local Government Council and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) to update its database for authentic Baales in the State.

Chief Jide Ojuko made this disclosure while featuring on a Television programme tagged “New Dawn” on the activities and achievements of the Ministry to mark the second year of the second tenure of the present administration.

The Commissioner said the exercise was part of measures and innovations put in place to checkmate the activities and excesses of illegal village chiefs who posed threats to their local communities, hinting that at the last count, 24 new Monarchs had been installed in the last two years, noting that filling of vacant chieftaincy stools were part of the present administration’s commitment to ensure that governance percolated down to the grassroots.

On Local Government, the Commissioner expressed optimism that the newly created 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) have come to stay assuring that with the creation of the LCDAs would facilitate the delivery of democratic dividends at the grassroots levels.

Speaking on the achievements of government in the area of community policing ,he affirmed that the State had been peaceful in the last two years, as he gave kudos to the Vigilante Service of Ogun State ( VSO ) for working round the clock to maintain peace and ensure security of lives and property in the immediate environment ,warning members of the public not to transact any business with any security outfit not accredited by the State government as the VSO remained the only recognised and certified security outfit.
