With the aim of creating a credible and authentic data base for pensioners, the Ogun State Government has commenced a physical verification exercise for pensioners in the state.
The exercise was aimed at ensuring an updated record of Pensioners so as to give room for prompt payment of monthly pensions to genuine retirees and also to save funds for government.
The exercise which kicked off on Wednesday at St Sebastian Cathedral Hall, Ijebu-Ode, would last for 18 days across the three Senatorial Districts of the State.
Speaking at the venue of the verification exercise, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of State Pension, Mr. Babatunde Agbaje, urged the Pensioners to cooperate with the officials of the agency for smooth running of the exercise.
Agbaje noted that the physical screening and verification exercise was put together by the Bureau in order to eliminate ghost pensioners, stressing that it would take place in all the 82 Treasury Cash Offices (TCO) in the State.
The Permanent Secretary expressed gratitude to the State Governor, Senator Ibikunke Amosun, for paying prompt attention to the needs and welfare of pensioners in the State.
