Ogun Commends Journalists on Pivotal Role over June 12

The Ogun State Government has commended the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on the pivotal role played during the struggle for the annulment of the June 12,1993 general election by the defunct military ruler,General Ibrahim Babangida.
Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Afolabi Afuape, who gave the commendation at the June 12 Media Commemorative March in memory of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola at the Fun Center at MKO International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.
He said if not for journalists, the memories of Chief MKO would have been forgotten, adding that June 12 should be declared a national holiday as the election that brought about the date has been adjudged the freest and fairest general election ever conducted in Nigeria by local and International bodies.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Chapter, Comrade Sole Sokunbi, said the role played by journalists can not be over-emphazised , saying journalists would always support any programme initiated in respect of late MKO Abiola as history surrounding the death of MKO would continue to be in the memories of Nigerians.
