By Kolawole Olayinka, Abeokuta

Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye has disclosed that the state is now free from polio disease.

Ipaye, who made this known while receiving Polio Plus Committee, Rotary International, District 9110 Nigeria at his Oke- Mosan Office, Abeokuta said that the last case of polio disease was treated eight years ago and there had not been any new discovery since then.

The Commissioner said the State would not rest on its oars towards sustaining the State’s status quo of being polio free in the nation, appreciating the partners for their support in the provision of qualitative and effective healthcare delivery to the citizenry.

“I can clearly say that we have eliminated Polio disease from Ogun state in the last eight years. The last case in the state was 2009 and we have not had a single case of Polio since then. However, we are not resting on our oars at maintaining our tempo,” Ipaye said.

In his remarks, the Chairman, Polio Plus Committee, Rotary International, District 9110, Nigeria, Dr. Bayo Windapo, appreciated the State Government for the warm reception and continuous partnership, stating that it would continue to sensitize members of the public to be more conscious of their health condition and work towards sustaining the State free status from polio disease.
