Two herdsmen, Abu Adamu and Muhammadu Aliyu, have been arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command for robbery and rape.

Abu and Muhammadu were arrested after a robbery operation at Afowowa Gbelu Farm Settlement in Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state where the suspects were also said to have raped a 16-year-old girl.

The suspects, according to a statement from the Spokesman of the state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, were said to have ransacked the house of one Aminat Okeshola, dispossessed the family of the sum of N140,000 after which they took their 16 years old daughter to the cassava plantation where they took turns to forcefully have sex with her.

The police from Ewekoro divisional headquarters were said to have stormed the farm settlement after receiving a distress call at about1am of last week Wednesday on the invasion of these armed men suspected to be herdsmen.

The statement stated further that the police swiftly combed the entire area and succeeded in arresting two of the suspects who were hiding in the nearby bush on sighting the policemen, while the third one escaped. The two arrested suspects were immediately identified by the victims.

The police said that preliminary investigation revealed that the herdsmen have always been passing through the farm settlement with their cattle in day time before they came back to strike on a fateful day.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun, has ordered a manhunt for the fleeing member of the gang while also directing the immediate transfer of the case to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation and prosecution.
