The Yewa Elders made this known at a press briefing held at Iwe-Iroyin, Abeokuta, Ogun State at the weekend.

They said: “the statement credited to Chief Osoba and which has not been refuted till now is obnoxious and leave a bad taste in our mouth.”

They claimed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo had admonished them to unite and come up with a single candidate.

“Chief Obasanjo meant well. But the problem is that of those who pretend to be our friends but are actually our enemies. They use us pawn in the state’s power politics.

“Unfortunately the Araba of Yewaland is a culprit. As the elders sadly list out ways and areas where he used and dumped them to achieve his aims of becoming the Governor of Ogun State in 1992.

“He said we swore to the political leaders from Ogun State and we believed him. He reneged on his promise but our God fought for us.

“We conducted a shadow election and picked Tope Kuyebi based on Chief Osoba’s approval. We started introducing the candidate to all party leaders in central and east senatorial districts. Suddenly, Chief Osoba came up with Biodun Akinlade, then a PDP member in the House of Representatives and latter the party ticket was given to Senator Ibikunle Amosun,” the group said.

While the elders highly commended former President Obasanjo for his courage concerning where the gubernatorial pendulum in the state should swing to come 2019.

Also, the elders thanked Governor Ibikunle Amosun for his announcement that he would hand over power to a candidate from Ogun West come 2019.
