In its determination to improve the standard of education, Ogun State Government has received the Institutional Development Plan report by the Consultants Messers International Training Solutions (ITS GMBH), which would serve as a guide in the revamping process.
Receiving the report in Abeokuta, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Sidi Osho, said that it was a blueprint, aimed at advancing technical education in the State, which she noted was beyond theory and required engagement of experts.
Prof. Osho acknowledged the quality of work done by the organisation, as contained in the report, revealing that a Technical Committee would be inaugurated to review the report, deliberate on appropriate methods for its integration into the scheme of work of each of the Technical Colleges, saying government would ensure that recommendations were implemented.
She informed that when in full operation, provisions in the report would change the narratives, as the college would evolve into training centers for trade and craftsmanship, thereby providing the needed man power and expertise for organisations in the State.
According to her, ‘’the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, promised a turnaround in the education sector and lot of giant strides have been recorded, including free education in all government owned primary and secondary schools across the State, renovations and construction of classrooms, takeover of schools for proper management, as well as recruitment of qualified teachers to ensure improved service delivery’’.
In her contribution, Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary, Secondary and Technical Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, said the initiative was an affirmation of government’s commitment to quality education in the State.
Speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye, said it was a fulfilment of promise made, assuring of government’s resolve to further boost education system in the State.
Earlier in his remarks, the Project Coordinator, Mr. Fidelis Atuma, who was accompanied by the CEO, ITS GmBH, Mr. Joachim Kuehnrich and senior TVET Consultant, Mr. Hauke Hay, noted that they had, over the last 10 months, worked closely with Principals and staff of Technical Colleges, Members of staff of the TVET Board, members of staff of the Ministry, as well as other stakeholders, to gather information and professional recommendations needed to convert the Technical Colleges to Model Technical Colleges of international standard.
ITS GMBH was engaged by the Ogun State Government to carry out a gap and needs assessment of the Eight (8) Technical Colleges in the State, with action plan in accordance with World Bank Deliverables.
