Ogun to Begin Free Health Treatment on Tuberculosis – Dr Ipaye

The Ogun State Ministry of Health and  United State Agency International Development (USAID) will soon begin the free test and treatment on people’s with tuberculosis (TB) in all 57 Local Government and Local Council Development Areas in the state.

Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, Ogun State Commissioner for Health stated this in Abeokuta while briefing the news men about development on Tuberculosis TB infection.

He explained that his ministry will begin the free test and treatment immediately the machine is officially launched by Senator Ibikunle Amosun  and Hon Oyewole, Minister for Health.

He said, according to projected population of 5.2 million inhabitants in ogun state, their are approximately 16,728 TB cases. Also in 2016 a total of 2,551 (15% detected rate) cases were recorded.

Saying this revealed a huge gap in TB case detection and their is an urgent need to respond to the growing burden it poses on the people of Ogun State.

He added that over 80% of the public facilities are equipped with tuberculosis services and there is an ongoing expansion to private providers including the private hospitals , faith based organisations and patent  machine provider’s.

Also 215 TB treatment clinics to access care and 54 centres where Tuberculosis testing can be done for free. And their are 13. GeneXper machines for rapid  TB test, which we provides results of sputum test within 2 good hours.

He further stayed that  federal ministry of Health through  the national TB programme has continued in its stride to ensure that all TB cases detected are approximately enrolled for care through the uninterrupted provisions of tuberculosis consumables and quality anti TB medicines with support from global fund.

In response to the chronic challenge to tuberculosis cases the federal ministry of health declared that 2017 as the year of accelerating tuberculosis findings .

According to Dr Basset NSA Country Director  KNCV foundation Nigeria advised tuberculosis is not a death certificate and its a curable decease  if we followed instruction asit was prescribed physician.

He said to avoid this decease we must avoid living in over populated place or area, we should avoid sharing cups with them. And symptoms tuberculosis are continuous coughing for two weeks seweting.

While urging every inhabitants of Ogun State to cooperate with the tuberculosis official as they move across the state.
