His Royal Majesty Oba James Elegbede (Oja of Agosasa), Ariseloge 1, has condemned the killing of Sekinat Agbelade, a 15-year-old girl by members of Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Ogun State command 1, Idi-Iroko area.
Oba James Elegbede stated this during press briefing held yesterday at the palace of Oja Agosasa in Ipokia Local government, Ogun state.
The monarch said the killing of Agosasa Community High School student, who was preparing for WAEC took place on Saturday, March 28th, 2020 while Customs were pursuing suspected smugglers.
He said the killing came to me as a shock.
Oja of Agosasa, thus condemned the killing, stressing that the act of NCS staff was barbaric and criminal.
He, therefore, call on the leadership of the NCS, the Comptroller General of Customs Col. Hammed Ali (rtd) to bring the perpetrators to book as there is no excuse neither any justification for this barbaric and extrajudicial killing.
He said, “It is quite sad, unfortunate and disheartening that the NCS Ogun Command 1 seems to be rewarding our hospitality as a host border community with incessant and reckless killings of our people and therefore taken us for a ride; this has to stop.
“We are peace-loving Community and our lives are sacrosanct. The law enforcement agents within our Community must respect this and be cautious at all times.
“It is high time the NCS retrains its Officers and men in the modern and globally accepted best practice of border control as done in other Countries which value the life of their citizens as this shall be the last time the Community will entertain such a barbaric act. There are better and more efficient ways to go about their statutory duties other than the use of force at every opportunity.
“Our heartfelt to the family of Agbelade at this difficult moment. Most especially during the trying period of COVID -19
“We mourn and enjoined them to accept the wishes of Almighty Allah who called his faithful servant back to the Creator.”
