Ojatun-tun Inferno: Cause Not Yet Known – LG Chairman

By: Mosunmola Ayobami, Kwara
Mr Abdulhamid Ali the Transition Implementation Committee (TIC), Chairman for ‎Ilorin West Local Government Area, which houses the incessant burnt Market  has ‎said the cause of burnt of over 40 shops which happen last Saturday is no yet know.
Ali said this while speaking with Westernpost Correspondent in Ilorin on Thursday.
“We are still waiting for official report‎ from the committee of enquiry put in place on Monday which consist of Commissioner for Commerce,Special Adviser on Commerce,Special Adviser on Emergency and my humble self as the Chairman,we have been trying to look into the issue holistically getting feedback from people and recommendations which will be present before his Excellence for approval”
“Am aware of the need to provide fire service station as part of their request, but am seen beyond provision of fire service station,in a situation where by the committee report reveal acts of sabotage, then the fire station will also be sabotage, so we need to get the report and holistically study it,try to ascertain the real cause of the incessant inferno,so if the report indicate act of ‎saboteurs then we have to find a way of addressing it,but if the report reveal negligence and all that we know how to address it, but we just have to get to the root of the matter”he said.
The Chairman he said he will launc an orientation paltform soonest where people will be enlighten on issues related to fire out break among others.
“Am championing a course to re orientated our people which I call “operation fight fire incident”through out the whole Ilorin west Local government where people will be enlighten as at the time, because as at the time we got there(Market) on Saturday we discover shops owner went home while the electrical bulb were on so that is why I said we can’t say anything until we get the report, but what am saying in essence is that a lot of people go home leaving their electrical appliance on,so we need to re orentate them on uses of this things, that is number one, secondly we should advocate for the uses of fire extinquiser as there sophisticated ones these days so we will encourage everybody in the Ilorin West local government, every market, home, institution to have it,even if we have a fire service station am sure it will not be sited in every section of the market but extinquiser can be,so this is going to be a campaign that will take us round the local government to prevent future occurence of fire outbreak,” he added.
Speaking on issue of people piloting the affair of the Market he said, according to what I know we ‎may consider holding election as Ojatun-tun do not have executives, as the Marketers says they no longer want the present people at the elm of affair in the Market,if that is what will bring peace to the markets will do that.
The Journalist turned politician, was honoured with a an award so he initially do not want to go for the programme as he is the chief mourner in the LG after he decided to attend he dedicated the award to all victims of the inferno.
“Honestly I did not want to attend the programme as am the chief mourner in the Local and its not time for fun fair at least for the next one week, even when the programme started I was busy with stakeholders from Ilorin West Market Union, after which those from Ojatun-tun came and that was I dedicated the award to the victims of the fire incident and used the opportunity to charge them on how to avert future incident,” he said.
