Edo State Governor, comrade Adams Oshiomhole and three of his colleagues may be competing in the 2nd edition of the 10 kilometres Okpekpe Road Race.

A close aide of the governor told our correspondent that Governors of Osun, Rafu’a Aragbesola, Hon. Rotimi Amenchi of Rivers State and Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta have sent in their registration forms to participate in the race come May 3, 2014.

An aide said, the governors has also sent in words that they are not participating to make up the numbers of athletes but to win one of the star prizes of the competition.

He specifically mentioned Rivers and Osun State governors whom he said vowed to give Oshiomhole run for his money.

“Bros, I can tell you that Comrade will have governors Amenchi and Aragbesola to contend with. We hear that they are training and have shown interest to win any of the star prizes, if our oga, refuses to train hard, they will knock him (Oshiomhole) out,” he said.

In order to meet up with the threats from his colleague governors, Comrade Oshiomhole has sought the services of former international athlete, Yusuf Ali as his trainer.

Ali who is also the administrator of the Okpekpe Road Race confirmed this Monday on ‘Sportsville’ programme aired on a private television station.

He said the Governor training will resume on Thursday 24 and will train thrice a week before the competition date.

Ali also disclosed that 14 foreign athletes and over 5, 000 Nigeria athletes have sent in their registration forms to participate in the Okpekpe Road Race.
