Religious leaders in the country have been urged to pray for peace and security of Nigerians ahead the 2019 general elections.
The urged was given by the Founder, Spiritual Head and Grand Immam, Shafaudeen in Islam Worldwide, Engr (Prof.) Sabit Olagoke (JP) at the Shafaudeen In Islam Annual International Convention (Ishrat 2019) held at its Headquarters, Wakajaiye, Ibadan.
According to him, it is important for religious leaders to pray ahead the forth coming election in order to avert crisis and political calamity that may want to rear its ugly head during and after the exercise.
While urging the people to vote for credible candidates at the polls, Professor Olagoke cautioned against vote buying, warning that such idea could undermine the integrity of the election.
In a lecture, “Quest For Nigeria Sustainable Development, The Management Imperatives” delivered at the programme, Professor Adegoke said hope for all Nigerians is in the coming general elections beginning with the Presidential and National Assembly polls on February 16 adding that the neutrality of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) objectivity in making the peoples vote count is sought to make it truly Independent and capable.
He said the judiciary on justice system must be incorruptible in this sense adding that media must play the umpire through investigative journalism and reliable reporting to moderate social media intervention.
“A free and fair, transparent and credible elections by the INEC will not only produce acceptable leadership that must have been accredited to be capable of bringing about out our desired change on zero tolerance to institutional discipline and corruption as well as the need for rational restructuring exercise to make the outcome of the election our turning point.”
Highlight of the programme was the official launch of two book, titled, Wholesome Body for Wholesome God and Corporate Governance for Strong Institution: Pathway To Sustainable Development.
