Olawunmi Adedeji Calls for More Participation of Women in Politics

By Richard Thomas, Ibadan

Action Democratic party (ADP) lawmaker in the Oyo State House of Assembly Honourable Olawunmi Bimbo  Adedeji  has called for more participation from women in  the nation’s politics in order for them to have a say and contribute meaningfully to national development.

The legislator who represents Ogbomoso North in the state House of Assembly in  an interview with Journalists in Ibadan said women can do better in politics and national development by  showing more  courage and high  commitment in   politics and national development.

Hon. Adedeji who berated the
low percentage of women in politics and governance in the country said   they would continue to be under utilized if they shy away from their responsibility.

“Women are problem to themselves because of their ego. They forget that they can do better in national issues and politics of the nation. The Beijing  35 percent  affirmative of women participation in politics has  not been followed and this  ought not to be so.”

The lawmaker who   decried   the under representation  of women in the politics of the  state and the State House of Assembly charged them to come out in their numbers to contest the Assembly seats in the next election and as well hold political office in the state.

” The seventh Assembly had one  female representation, the Eight had two females while the Nineth  Assembly  had one female who happen to be me.  All these are signs of under representation of women in politics.”

Hon Adedeji  called on women in the state and Nigeria as a whole to come out in their numbers to participate actively in politics adding that it was high time women made  their presence known and felt in the nation’s politics.
