Olubadan Shuns Reception By Olubadan-in-Council For Ajimobi

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Saliu Adetunji Ogunguniso 1, on Thursday night shunned the grand Reception organized by all members of the 11 Local Government traditional councils in Ibadanland.

The monarch had severed relations with the State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi over the appointment and crowning  of the 11 members of the Olubadan-in-Council as beaded crown monarchs across the 11 Local Government in the ancient city.

The event which took place at the Ibadan Civic Centre, had in attendance all the traditional council members of Ibadanland as well as government functionaries.

Of recent, the Olubadan was conspicuously absent at the grand finale of the Ibadan Cultural Festival organized by the Central Council Of Ibadan Indigenes ( CCII) a socio-cultural group of prominent indegenes of Ibadanland.

Though the reasons for the  monarch’s absence at the reception  could not be ascertained as at press time,  it might not be unconnected to the no love lost status that has been existing between the duo, a situation which had affected the political fortunes of the governor and its political party, the APC  in the last generally elections.

In his remarks at the ceremony, Governor Abiola Ajimobi expressed gratitude to the traditional ciuncil members for the support they have given in ensuing his successful tenure in office in the last eight years.

He maintained that his motive for elevating the traditional chieftaincy structure of Ibadanland was not ill- conceived or politically motivated but for the overall good of the Ibadan people.

“Kabiyesi is my father and I can not just embark on a policy that will diminish his status , I have nothing to gain doing it. But it’s rather unfortunate that everything has been politicized,” he lamented.

He added that, “If the court reverses it or upholds it, so be it, but be assured that all the decisions we have taken has been documented.”
