...It’s Iwo or nothing – Oluwo kicks
A foremost traditional ruler in Osun State, Oba Abdul Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwoland has warned that any political parties which field candidates outside of Osun West Federal Constituency will not earn the vote of the people , declaring that it’s Iwo or nothing.
The monarch who vowed to be involved in the forthcoming governorship election, lamented that iwo and environs had been marginalised, politically and promised to challenge the status quo.
He said this in his palace in Iwo while playing host to a leading governorship aspirant under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, today.
“I am glad I have children that are competent. Who can lead. And be the governor of Osun. I am particularly grateful for Akin Ogunbiyi. I am proud of him and other great sons and daughters of Iwoland.
“I am really committed to the development of iwo. I am firmly on the course for iwo to produce the next governor of Osun. It is not just ‘Iwolokan’. But ‘iwo lonbo’.
“Iwo is the headquarters of Osun West federal constituency. I have spoken to political parties in Osun. Any party that fail to choose it’s flag bearer from iwoland should forget it.
“I am for the unity of Iwoland. So, when I say iwoland, I am taking about Iwo, Kuta, Ile-Ogbo, Oluponna, Telemu, Ogbagba, Bode Osi and environs.
“Though people feel that a monarch should not participate in politics. But I am constitutionally allowed to participate and I will be fully involved.
“I am aware of the antics by some people. See, if you don’t pick candidate from here, it will be difficult and dangerous,” he declared.
Oluwo prayed for Ogunbiyi while the aspirant acknowledged the support of the frontier monarch toward the political emancipation of the constituency and promised to represent iwo well, if elected as the flag bearer of the party and Osun Governor.
