The camp of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), in Ondo State was further enlarged on Saturday when thousands of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) members joined the broom revolution at the State Secretariat in Akure.
In a statement made available to Western Post on Saturday by the publicity secretary of the party, Alex Kalejaye stated that the new members flooded the Oyemekun Road office from 10 local government areas, and were led by the State Chairperson, Chief (Mrs.) Tokunbo Adetoro, and other key players, at the State, and local government and ward levels.
The development happened on the heels the defection of a member of House of Representatives on the platform of ADC, Hon. Abiola Makinde, who dumped the ADC a few weeks ago, and directed his teeming supporters to follow suit.
The new APC members, including former ADC State Women leader, Hon. Okanmiyo Nicolas Ojuri, and State Youth leader, Comrade Adesina Arikawe, promised to work for the success of the APC in next weekend’s gubernatorial poll.
Clad in APC attires, indicating their love for, and loyalty to the new political party, wavering brooms endlessly, they pledged allegiance to the ruling party.
Receiving them, APC State Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin commended the people for taking what he called “the right step in the right direction”, and expressed confidence that the marriage would further boost the chances of the ruling party at the guber poll.
Adetimehin challenged them to return to their wards, and commence last-minute mobilisation for the party, and ensure the success of the APC flag bearer.
Earlier, the former State Chairperson of ADC, Mrs Tokunbo Adetoro, said the decision to collapse their structure into the ruling party was informed by the sterling performance of the Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led government.
To ensure continuity of the good works, Adetoro, a prominent daughter of Akure Kingdom, promised to work for the success of the APC in Saturday’s election, saying Governor Akeredolu deserves a second term.
The jubilant new members also promised to mobilise support, in their various localities, for the victory of Akeredolu/Ayedatiwa ticket come October 10.
