The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, has said the choice of Gboye Adegbenro as his running mate came from God.
Ajayi finally settled for former governor of the state, Dr Olusegun Mimiko’s ally, as his running mate against all odds.
Indications emerged last night after declaring for the Zenith Labour Party in Akure, the Ondo State Capital, that Gboye, a former commissioner during the last administration, would be picked as Ajayi’s running mate with the help of the leadership of the party.
Adegbenro is one of Mimiko’s loyalists who had stayed with him since leaving office in 2017.
No fewer than four persons had lobbied for the deputy governorship slot.
They included the state Chairman of ZLP, Hon. Joseph Akinlaja from Ondo west, and a former Commissioner for Women Affairs under Mimiko, Mrs Olanisimi Odunmbaku, from Akoko North-East Local Government Area.
Also in the front seat for the deputy governorship slot were former Speaker of the state House of Assembly and former Works Commissioner, Rt Hon Taofeek Olawale Abdulsalam, from Akoko North East.
However, the lot fell on the former Commissioner for Works under Mimiko, Engineer Gboye Adegbenro from Ifedore Local Government area
Gboye is believed to be loved by the youths and politicians across party divide, due to his humility and his love for people.
