Ondo State government on Monday expressed dissatisfaction with the level of waste disposal in Akure, the state capita.
Commissioner for the Environment, Sunday Akinwalire on a visit round Akure metropolis blamed the contractor handling waste disposal, ZL international of failure to keep the city clean.
The commissioner, who moved around the city with Permanent Secretary, Akin Asaniyan, the General Manager, Waste Management Board, Mrs. Ayo Adeyemi, and other management staff said that the contractor is not sincere with the level of work done along major roads in the state capital.
He directed the contractor to get more hands and equipment so as to fast-track waste disposal in the state.
He advised all and sundry to keep their environment clean and be wary of the diseases flying around like cholera, bird flu and other health-related diseases.
The commissioner applauded the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu for acquiring over 50 hectares of land along Akure – Ondo road as a dumping site so as to make the work easier for the ministry.
Meanwhile, some people were arrested in the Sabo area of the state capital for going against the environmental law of the state, like cooking and frying fishes for public consumption in a dirty environment.
