The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has paraded three suspected oil thieves for vandalizing a pipeline belonging to the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) at Omotosho, along Ore-Sagamu axis.
The suspects are Paul Christopher, Kingsley Omosore, and Akeem Kamoru.
The state Acting Commandant of the corps, Adewoye john Oyedokun, who paraded the suspects before journalists at the Alagbaka Headquarters of the command disclosed that the suspects were arrested on Tuesday by its anti-vandal unit following a tip off from members of the public.
Oyedokun said the criminals had successfully siphoned 1,550 litres of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) contained in 62 Kegs of 25 litres capacity jerry can, loaded in a car with registration number LND 486 CP Lagos.
“The suspects were arrested at 05:45am on Tuesday by anti-vandal unit of the Command following a tip off by a good citizen who saw them when they were scooping the product from the vandalized NNPC pipeline at Omotosho and they were caught in a Toyota Picnic vehicle loaded with 62 litres gerrican filled with PMS,” the acting commandant said.
The suspects confessed to the crime. A local welder that helped them to drill the pipeline was also arrested.
While warning those with the habit of engaging in illegal oil business by vandalizing pipeline to desist, the state NSCDC boss said the command would not spear anyone caught in the act.
He, however, added that the culprits would be charged to court after a thorough investigation had been concluded to serve as deterrent to others.
