Ondo: Parties Boycott Police Peace Meeting

By Temitope Adedeji in Akure

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 11, comprising Ondo, Oyo and Osun states, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, has expressed displeasure with the attitude of politicians in the state.

The police had convened a meeting with the political parties in the state in a bid to prepare the ground for peace ahead of the election.

But most of the politicians in the state failed to honour the peace meeting scheduled for Tuesday at the Police Officers’ Mess in Akure, Ondo State capital.

The AIG could not hold back his anger when he was answering questions from journalists in Akure.

He, however, said the meeting would be re-scheduled for another day, provided the aim will be achieved.

When WESTERN POST put a call through to the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Mr. Banji Okunomo, he said the party was not invited to the peace meeting.

But the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Wole Ogodo, said all parties in the state were invited.

The AIG said the meeting would be re convened soon in order to work towards peace in the state.
