The crisis rocking Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party took a new turn yesterday as two of the House of Rep. members from the state defected to the All Progressives Congress.
They alleged that the state governor Dr. Olusegun Mimiko who recently joined the party from Labour Party failed to respect the structure of PDP in the state.
The two are Hon. Gani Dauda from Labour Party and Hon. Akintoye Albert from PDP.
Hon. Dauda represents Akoko North East and West federal constituency while Akintoye represents Okitipupa Irele federal constituency.
Hon. Akintoye in a telephone interview with journalists attributed his defection to the unresolved crisis trailing the defection of Mimiko to PDP in the state.
The legislator said PDP in the state had witnessed unprecedented political decadence since Mimiko decamped to the party a month ago.
Akintoye said he expected Mimiko to carry every party member along and involve them in the scheme of things, but he rather adopted divide and rule tactics for his selfish interest.
“How can you just come into the party and say you want to take over the party at the detriment of the old members and destroyed the existing structure?
“Everybody in Ondo State knows that Mimiko left Labour Party because the party had lost credibility and relevance in the state.  We expected the leadership of PDP to address and handle the issue appropriately but instead, they rather did otherwise”.
Akintoye who was a council chairman in the state and the only PDP legislator in the lower house berated Mimiko for causing uproar during the party ward congress in the state. With the crisis in the party in the state, Akintoye said President Goodluck Jonathan will lose the state during the 2015 general elections, if the crisis is not resolved. The lawmaker  said he spent his resources to sustain the PDP in the area in the last six years of the Labour party in the state and wondered why the governor should be allowed to pay him with evil.
“How can a governor pick sisters of the same parents for state assembly and House of Representatives seats?. The speaker of the state assembly, Hon. Jumoke Akindele, and Princess Oladunni Odu are born of the same parents.
“The governor has endorsed Princess Odu to go to House of Representatives and her immediate younger sister who happens to be the speaker to contest for the state assembly. This is a game plan against my ambition. It is bad”.
