The Ondo State-owned Rufus Giwa Polytechnics, Owo, (RUGIPO) has secured the licence for the operation of a radio station for community-based broadcast as part of the efforts of the institution’s governing Council to reposition the School.
The Chairman of RUGIPO Governing Council, Mr Banji Alabi, Esq who disclosed this while addressing reporters in his office on Thursday, said that the radio station will soon commence operation as soon as all other necessities are secured.
He said the move to get the institution a radio station was part of his resolve to transform the school and take it to a higher height.
He explained that the governing council has been able to ensure that more structures are built while more courses have also been accredited.
Alabi explained that his council inherited a battered institution with unpaid nine months salary arrears which has been reduced to four months.
He said:” The government of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has been supportive before the government came on board, we were being owned 9 months, but the present government have been magnanimous enough to reduce it to four months and the Governor has promised to pay all the outstanding soon.”
While stressing that the ongoing transformation in the institution will reposition the school to greater heights, he called for the collective support and cooperation of all stakeholders in the Polytechnic community.
Alabi who described that the school as one of the best in the country said:” The time has come for us to make RUGIPO a citadel of learning which would be a template for others to emulate, we must reposition it in such a way that the incoming generation would be proud of us.”
The Chairman further said that with the support and cooperation of men and women in the council, the school is poised for greatness.
“l am happy with the caliber of people in my team, I mean members of the governing board, these are people that have excelled in their various callings, so with their support, experience and cooperation, the school is poised for greatness “
In the recent time, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic was in the murky water of crisis, with the sack of ASUP Chairman and others, the council Chairman quickly debunked it saying:”There was no crisis in our school, there is absolute peace and our position is to make the institution a better place for all and in doing that, some bad heads must go, it is not personal but a stand.”
