Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has pledged to tackle unemployment through sustainable agriculture that will boost food production.
Mimiko said this on Friday at a seminar organised by Agricultural Input Supply Agency (AISA), in conjunction with Harvest Field Limited, for farmers in the state.
The governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr Kola Ademujimi, said the seminar was organised to educate farmers on how to apply chemicals on their crops.
The farmers were also educated on where they could get chemicals at subsidised rates.
Mimiko noted that agriculture remained the only way to win the war against unemployment in the state.
“We have resolved, as a state government, to tackle unemployment among our teeming youths through a sustainable agriculture development,” he said.
The state Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Lasisi Oluboyo, said the seminar was aimed at impacting knowledge to the farmers and enhance their activities to increase agricultural yield.
According to Oluboyo, the seminar will encourage more youths to take up agriculture.
He urged them to make good use of what they would learn at the seminar.
AISA was established to procure, distribute and sell genuine agricultural inputs at subsidised rates to farmers in the 18 local government areas of the state. (NAN)
