…says state government yet to restore subvention

The Kwara State Polytechnic Rector, Engineer Abdul Mohammed has draw attention to some of his achievements in office as the Rector in the last one year.
Some of his achievements are renovation of staff quarters which was leaking due to old age and longtime neglect, renovation of some offices, laboratories and toilets.
Mohammed gave the highlight while speaking with newsmen to mark his one more year in office, in Ilorin on Thursday.
The Rector said his administration has been able to restore water in the school campus and ensured the installation of Solar Panel light in some strategic locations in the school that used to be dark at night as well as provision of Internet connectivity and construction of horticultural garden.
The Rector however said the institution is yet to be enjoying the subvention from the state government.
“We are still engaging government on that but, they are yet to fulfill promise on restoration of the monthly subvention to the Polytechnic that was stopped by the immediate past administration in 2015, ” he said.
The Rector has also called for more commitment from stakeholders so that the nation could enjoy the polytechnic education contribution to national development.
Mohammed said poor funding, inadequate monitoring of research projects, irregular staffing and poor commitment are some of the factors millitating against the polytechnic contribution to national growth.
He added that unfavourable public perception of polytechnic education and inadequate reward system for lecturers as some other factors militating against polytechnic education in the country.
