The Yorubas within and beyond the shores of Nigeria, on Tuesday, came out in their large numbers to stage a rally in support of Operation Amotekun, a security network recently established by Governors from Western Nigeria to wage war against the spate of insecurity ravaging the zone.

The protest tagged The Amotekun Solidarity Walk was held simultaneously in Lagos, Abeokuta, Ibadan, Osogbo, Akure and Ado-Ekiti respectively.

The Ibadan rally which kick-started at the Oyo State Government House Arcade ground lasted several hours.

The protest was organized by the Yoruba World Congress (YWC); an umbrella body of all Yoruba Socio-cultural and Self Determination Groups within and beyond Nigeria led by Yoruba Leader, Emeritus professor, Banji Akintoye.

While addressing journalists, the Head of security,  Yoruba World Congress (YWC), Mr Kunle Adesokan said any attempt by the Federal government to suppress Operation Amotekun would be resisted.

He, however, assured the Oyo state governor, Engr Seyi Makinde of their total support for the project.

It will be recalled that the Federal government through the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, had earlier declared that the Amotekun security outfit set up by South-west states was illegal.
