OPEYEMI BAMIDELE: I HAVE NO PACT WITH PDP, PRESIDENCY
Labour Party governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, has debunked speculations that he has a deal with the Peoples Democratic Party in respect of the June 21 governorship election in the state, saying he is neither in an alliance with the party nor with the presidency.
Bamidele, who represents Ado-Ekiti/Irepodun-Ifelodun Federal Constituency at the House of Representative, said the governorship race in Ekiti State, where campaign of issues ought to have been the agenda of the parties involved in the contest, had been reduced to politics of rumour, deceit, name-calling, rancour, lies and violence.
According to him, “Unfortunately I’m in the race with people whose capacity to lie and engage in propaganda is known to everyone. I am in this race with people who are pursuing their electoral desire as if they are waging a war who even boast with it or sometimes even boast with the fact that their educational certificate they obtained were in war mongering”.
Speaking with WESTERN POST in his country home in Iyin-Ekiti on Saturday, the Chairman, House Committee on Legislative Budget and Research posited that only God makes positions in life possible through His divine allocation.
“I feel as much as possible that what we should encourage is a situation where we concede to the fact that it is God that gives positions. It is God that makes kings and princes if we were to concede to that, I think there will be less of lies, there will be less of propaganda, there will be less of brigandage, which are all the tactics,” he said.
He alleged that the propaganda that he was being sponsored by the presidency was coming from Governor Fayemi Campaign Organisation, which according to him, “has been fabricating all sort of lies; they are talking about alliance with another candidate, before they started by saying I was been sponsored by the presidency.
“The same people, in this state six months ago, said I had taken two billion naira from the presidency to come and run for election. They said this for so long but nobody believed them not even one person believed them in Ekiti and those who know well who have been familiar with my antecedents will know that from early in life, I had learnt to develop a sense of indignation to injustice but they could not imagine that I could stand my feet and insist on a thing because I had always been the good boy of the party”.
But responding to the swipe at Governor Fayemi, the spokesperson of Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation, Dimeji Daniels, dismissed Bamidele’s allegation as the ranting of a defeated man, whose stock in trade is appealing to emotions rather than facing the main issue.
He said: “Ekiti is interested in what Bamidele has in the offing for them. He should address his credibility problem, which has suffered deliberate accidental discharge in recent times rather than accusing people who have little or no interest in his venture.
“Hon. Bamidele was elected to the House of Representatives to represent the interest of Ado-Ekiti/ Irepodun/Ifelodun Constituency but he chose to abandon them, it is eating your cake and wanting to have it, he would have to explain to his constituents why he abandoned them, we cannot do that for him.
“For us at APC, Governor Fayemi has delivered on all his promises and everywhere we go, the people say he deserves a second term. We have no apology to render to Bamidele for that”.
ERELU FAYEMI HARPS ON GOOD GOVERNANCE AS RECIPE FOR MISTRUST
The wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, has said the country will be a better place for all citizens if the state’s model of “good governance, transparency and clarity of vision” are replicated at every level of governance.
She said that the impactful populist programmes and policies of the Fayemi-led administration would aid the re-election bid of the governor in the June 21 governorship election.
Mrs. Fayemi made the statement at the launch of Village Health Workers Scheme and presentation of cheques to agriculture-based cooperative societies, organized by the state’s Millennium Development Goals office in Ado-Ekiti/
The Ekiti First Lady said the Fayemi-led administration had a wide range of people-oriented achievements to flaunt, which she said was a marked difference between him and his predecessors.
She said: “This is an administration that has a vision and roadmap. This is an administration that has an agenda in terms of eradicating poverty.
“The edge we have over other people is that we have a long range of achievements to point at within the last three-and-a-half years of this administration.
“For those who are scheming and planning to replace this administration, the news is that there is no vacancy because this administration is doing its best for the people of Ekiti.”
Erelu Fayemi asserted that millions of people in the state had benefitted from the good governance of the administration and would wish it continues for another four years.
She advised beneficiaries of the scheme to be good ambassadors of the state, while she also urged them to do their best to support the poor and the needy in their various communities.
The governor’s wife implored them to do their best to reduce maternal and infant mortality to the barest minimum to build on the record achievements of the state in this regard.
EX-EKITI AGN: ONI WAS NEVER PDP MEMBER
Fayemi Campaign D-G: His defection Has Compounded PDP’s Woes
As controversy continues to trail the defection of former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Segun Oni, to the All Progressives Congress in the state, the Deputy Director-General, Ayo Fayose Campaign Organisation, Mr. Owoseni Ajayi, has said Oni was never a member of the Peoples Democratic Party “but an opportunist”.
Speaking with WESTERN POST in Ado-Ekiti, Ajayi described Oni as an albatross to the party who brought nothing but ill-luck to the party in the state, saying right from the beginning, Oni had been seen as a complete stranger in the party.
According to Ajayi: “Oni crossed from the then AC, now APC to PDP just to grab the gubernatorial ticket in PDP after Fayose was forced out of office. He was not a member of PDP, he joined us a few weeks to the primaries, where he came a distant third. But he was imposed on the party then by the power-that-be and the rest is now history”.
Ajayi said: “After getting the ticket of the PDP, instead of behaving the way Fayose is behaving now, talking to other aspirants, bringing all the PDP members together. Oni started witch-hunting all followers of Fayose and not only that all original members of PDP were annihilated. Oni went to the extent that all members of our party who had won primaries for various elective positions were substituted.
He retrieved the mandate given 13 PDP members to the House of Assembly and gave to his people and 13 people eventually lost the elections.
“The development led to the thirteen – thirteen controversy in the Ekiti Assembly. With that, he narrowly won the governorship election, it was obviously clear that Dr. Fayemi won that election. Because Oni was vindictive, he was not tactful, and he did not ask for corporation of the party members. That was why he had that problem of disastrous outing in that election”.
However, the spokesperson of Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation, Dimeji Daniels, berated Ajayi, saying the PDP was still smarting from the loss of Oni, adding that the recent gale of defections had compounded PDP’s woes in the build-up to the governorship election of June 21.
Daniels commended Oni for choosing to stand on the side of the people, especially at a critical juncture when many driven by anti-people, ill-driven ambition conspire hand-in-glove with external forces against the collective wellbeing of their people.
He said Oni, whose defection has left the PDP in irrecoverable shock, would go down in history as a leader who rose above prejudice, sentiments and pettiness.
