OPINION: Calling Yorubas To Unite For Tinubu, By Kola AMZAT

The most high, the all knowing and the infallible God have not created a perfect being. Uriah’s wife, Bathsheba, was biblical King David Achilles heels, despite so much affection and immense love he enjoyed from God, and even King Solomon, who God proclaimed the greatest & wealthiest ever, was encumbered by his lust for several concubines from nations that God detested on account of their idolatry.

In contemporary political world, we need to cast our minds back to the global greats; Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Italian Silvia Berlusconi, Cuba Fidel Castro, Iconic Nelson Mandela and back home, the enigmatic Olusegun Obasanjo and of course, President Buhari who revels in nepotism despite persistence hues & cries of people in other geo-political zones.

None of these leaders moved close to perfection, as they were all dogged by one flaw or the other before & during their respective reigns. Indeed, whosoever is clamoring for a perfect being will have to take a trip to the moon!

I’ve gone through the above voyage, in response to the very few Nigerians who expressed their reservations at my persistent clamoring for Asiwaju Tinubu 2023 presidency. They alleged that he has passion for wealth acquisition.

For crying out loud, Tinubu is an Accountant and the first law in his accountancy profession is wealth creation. How on earth would you create wealth without being a beneficiary?    How do you prevent an Estate Surveyor from owning hectares of Lands; gifts from some of his clients? How do you prevent a monarch from having collection of crowns?

To the critics, I sincerely advise them to be less sentimental and cultivate the spirit of looking at the big picture i.e. picture of what the distinguished Nigerian represents; transformation, excellence, creativity, development, new paradigm, reformation, resilience, mamooth dreams & its actualization, as well as courage.

It’s instructive that he’s done it before, even with meager resources in a federating unit and he’s prepared to do it again at the national stage.

For the avoidance of doubt, Lagos remains the model and template other states in the country and even, other countries in Sub-Saharan African are using as standard of development. This is mainly on account of developmental blueprint he instituted & bequeathed onto the state, while his tenure lasted and the legacy is still operational several years after his exit.

To all the Yorubas both at home and in Diaspora, I encourage all of us, to be circumspect and rally round, as well as muster support for our own, in the SW quest for 2023 presidency.

Quite a number of patriots have also suggested that VP, Yemi Osinbajo, Raji Fashola, and even, Kayode Fashola, governor of Ekiti state should throw their hats into the race.

No doubt, these prominent Yorubas are leaders in their own rights, but Nigerian presidency is meant for steel minded, very tested, as well as the one who has the gut to withstand the voice of whatever spirit from the east, west, south & the north of the wind.

I think we all owe VP, Yemi Osinbajo duty to allow him taking a deserved rest, after he might have completed his eight years adventure, but troubled tenure as second in command. Babatunde Raji Fashola and Kayode Fayemi are distinguished leaders in their own rights, but, it’s not yet time for any of them to assume the nation leadership.

They still need to go through McCoy of operating as numero-uno in the deep sea of Nigerian political landscape; otherwise, they would rush out, as they rush in. The job is meant for ‘political juggernaut’

The only candidate that could withstand all pressures from all angles that Yorubas have for the 2023 presidential race is Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Jagaban of Borgu.

He remains our best export to the Nigerian people. He remains the best man for the job. He has operated in the closet with all living Nigerian leaders, including the acclaimed winner of 1993 presidential election, Bashorun MKO, Abiola.

He has been thoroughly schooled in the intrigues & dynamics of power. Since his completion of two term tenure as Lagos state governor, Tinubu has been in the forefront of leading progressive groups across the land, a political movement that includes President Buhari, Yemi Osinbajo, Atiku Abubakar, Ahmed Lawan, Femi Gbajabiamila, Raji Fashola, Rochas Okorocha, Chris Ngige, Godswill Akpabio, even, the enfant terrible, Bukola Saraki and others. In fact, he spearheaded them to oust former president, Goodluck Jonathan from office.

In the last eight years, he’s been deeply involved in the politics of NASS and the composition of its leadership, a move geared at ensuring that, there’s less rancor between the legislative & executive. Indeed, he’s been the leading light for the progressive across the nation. Tinubu business and political skills easily attract global political & business leaders onto him.

The nation stands to maximally benefit from these global contacts, as Nigerian president. The APC national leader has diverse knowledge of virtually all issues; socio-political, economy, infrastructures etc. He is also at home to all class in the society; Traditional rulers, business & political class, leaders of thoughts, past leaders, youths, and women wing, as well as downtrodden.

With extra-ordinary gift of governance that nature bestowed on Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the late-stage could not fulfill his ultimate dream of presiding over the affairs of Nigeria as president, on account of denial by the political class.

Even though, Bashorun MKO Abiola won the 1993 presidential election, the power that be, denied him the honor to lead Nigeria. Another golden opportunity beckons on the Yorubas. If we miss it, another one may not come in fifty years.

It’s therefore incumbent on us, the Yorubas to promote, project and advertise our brand for Nigerian people to accept. Tinubu is a worthy and distinguished brand. From Oyo to Ondo to Ekiti to Osun to Ogun and to Lagos, this is an auspicious time to operate with unity of purpose. This is the time eschew jealousy, strife and hatred. It’s time to march behind Tinubu and let Nigerian people be conscious that, we don’t have any other candidate for 2023 race other than Jagaban of Borgu.
