OPINION: Femi Fani-Kayode’s Disgraceful Tongue, By Kola Amzat

God deliberately created the critical part of the human external body for diverse exploits. Eyes, head, mouth, arms, legs, ears-all have different mandates assigned to them by nature to fulfill. Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Bayern’s Lewandowsky are not given to rhetoric. In fact, they rarely grant interviews or involve themselves in unnecessary press conferences. They only concentrate on their trade, which has brought unto them immense fortunes and fame. The global football communities appreciate them only for what they’re doing with their legs and heads. Withdrawn Nova Djokovic, reticent Rafael Nadal and amiable Roger Federer continually thrill the tennis faithful across the world with their magical arms.

Vladimir Putin of Russia, President Buhari and even, the illustrious Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, only make public pronouncements at a critical time. The world hardly hears them talking, but when they do, their iconic pronouncements generates far-reaching consequences. Pastor E.A. Adeboye and legendary Chief Ebenezer Obey hardly involve themselves in public appearances, except to deploy the altar and stage performance, as an instrumentality of blessing to millions in Nigeria and across the globe, an enterprise they’ve involved in, over decades, with amazing dexterity, utmost efficiency and precision.

On the contrary, it’s not so for Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, whose ‘tongue’ has been a major barrier, a challenge that has dogged his path over the years. Most times, he has deployed his tongue in most acerbic and caustic manner, so much that he’s has attracted opprobrium, indignation, as well as hatred and this has particularly cost him, that high pedestal and place of honor, where he rightly belongs.

It’s not a matter of wealth, for he’s a man of immense fortunes, resulting from the inheritance from the Estate of enigmatic Chief Remi Fani-Kayode(the patriarch of Fani-Kayode family in Ile-Ife) of blessed memory, as well as those he legitimately acquired himself, from his thriving law practice and bountiful ones he garnered from his sojourn in politics. It’s also not an issue of personality, charisma or class, for he has them in abundance, nor issue of educational achievements, which God benevolently granted unto him. It’s a matter of maintaining decorum, decency, and respect for fellow human beings, regardless of class, race, and demography.

Nigerians would recollect that Fani Kayode was loose cannon in his attacks of President Buhari in the early days of APC federal administration. He recently relented, perhaps as result of counseling and advice from top quarters. Since the beginning of this year, he’s shifted his focus to AsiwajuTinubu, announcing to anyone who cares to listen to him, why North will betray Tinubu in his presidential bid and why his dream in that respect won’t come to reality, as if he’s the God who enthrones his chosen and anointed one for power & authority.

Let me submit to him through this medium, that why he’s alive, Tinubu will march triumphantly into Aso Rock come 2023 In Sha-Allah.

Nigerians would also recollect that, this writer condemned him & his assertion, as well as submitted that, as long as he’s not an APC caucus member, he’s not privy to the resolution of the top hierarchy of the party, as far as 2023 presidency is concerned and must therefore henceforth, refrain from unnecessary recklessness. Not quite long, a top monarch in Zamfara state conferred him with a traditional chieftaincy title only for the prominent sons & daughters of the ancient city, as well as the prominent title holders of the city threatening the monarch to withdraw the title bestow on him and if the king refuses, they would all drop their individual titles.

Their reason: they alleged that Femi is in the habit of continually harassing, humiliating and denigrating the Northern elders in his public appearances, as well as on the pages of Newspapers. It’s the same Femi who recently called a Journalist ‘stupid’ an action that has attracted condemnation from Nigerians in all walks of life. He needs to be conscious of the fact that, such untoward pronouncement is enough to ignite chaos & pandemonium in all the nooks&crannies of the country, if not nibbled in the bud. Nigeria would also vividly remember how he shakes the foundation of unity & harmony of this country, to its very foundation, when he was deploying the instrumentality of his office as SSA on Media & Publicity to the former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, to attack the personality of prominent and illustrious Nigerians, hiding under the cloak of defending hid s principal.

It’s instructive to submit that, the Yorubas regardless of education & class are noted for values and mutual respect for people of other zones. Indeed, Yorubas are the major reason why this nation has remained together and harmony, against all odds. We can comfortably submit that, all the views/opinions of Fani-Kayode on national issues, as well as, on personalities & professionals of other zones don’t represent the views of Yorubas. They are essentially his views.

Against this backdrop, this writer therefore implores & encourages the Yoruba traditional rulers, especially the Ooni of Ife, the highly revered Monarch of the source, His Imperial Majesty,Oba EnitanOgunwusi, as well as Yoruba elders and other stakeholders that, it’s an auspicious time to call Femi Fani-Kayode to order. Nigerians in other parts of the country always accord maximum respect unto Yorubas; they don’t deserve less.

I sincerely doubt if there is any other path to self-destruct than the route he has chosen and this is despite, his enormous achievements and very enviable height he’s attained in the society.
