The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) finally held it’s State Congress Monday with a former commissioner for information, Anselm Ojezua, a lawyer from Edo Central Senatorial District emerging as state chairman of the party after two aspirants, Emmanuel Okhiria and J. O. Udaze stepped down for him.

At the well-attended ceremony held at the Gone Hard Court of Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Oshiomhole called on Nigerians to protect the democracy that “has comes to stay”

With the zoning of the chairmanship position to Edo Central, it is now clear that the next governorship candidate of the party will come Edo South. The state governor, Adams Oshiomhole is from Edo north.

He said: “In Edo State and indeed in Nigeria, democracy has come to stay; we are not running this democracy under anybody’s license. It has been licensed by the great people of Nigeria and we will practice it for the god of our people. Evil thrive only when men of little minds decide not to stand on their feet but rather go on their knees to worship evil doers.”

Making reference to some members of the party led by Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who recently defected to the PDP, the governor said: “Those who insist that no man is God who now accepts that man is God, may man continue to be their God. Those who said no man is God, in the morning, in the afternoon they said no man is God and in the evening out of desperation, they now accept that a man is God I ask you to accept that man shall be their God and let me use this opportunity to remind everyone that I am a thorough democrat I understand the principle of multi-party democracy.

“APC is not at war with PDP, APC recognises the legitimacy of PDP and we are here to contest on the basis of ideas but we are all united in a shared commitment to build a great nation, we may not agree on the best way to do it which is why we have chosen to build an alternative platform.

“We have done our manicure and pedicure we have scrapped away that part of the APC skin that cannot fit into the logic of change and now we are in the move, I have come here to reassure you that this is our great country, we are not local champions, and we are not emergency leaders. We didn’t come to public office by accident nor were we motivated by what is good for us, we have records as haven fought for Nigeria.

“We fought for democracy, we suffered against military dictatorship, we raised our voices against the generals when somebody was hiding under the trees so we are tested army of change, we are tested army of what is good for Nigeria. “We are tested patriots who refused to give up even in the face of a gun so we are not emergency leaders, opportunists who are motivated only by short term calculation of what is god for us as individuals and what is good for us as family.

“My role in my fight to liberate Edo people is not a personal fight, indeed those who have moved on started fighting not on the basis of Edo people, they started fighting over their own ambitions…when they go about spreading rumours, spreading untruth, I remind them that I did not cause their troubles, I was not responsible for their being deregistered and happily I am not responsible now for their returning to be registered.”
