A Serving Senator, Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke on Saturday picked the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the September 22,2018 Gubernatorial election in Osun State.
In a keenly contested election supervised by the electoral panel headed by Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, Senator Adeleke polled 1,569 votes to beat his rival in the election, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi by seven votes.
Dr Ogunbiyi scored 1,562 votes in the election while two other contestants, Alhaji Fatal Akinade Akinbade and Mr Nathaniel One (SAN) scored 56 votes and three votes respectively.
There was wild jubilation in Ede town where Senator Adeleke hails from immediately after the announcement of the result of the election.
Before announcing the winner of the election, Governor Dickson explained that out of 3,448 delegates expected at the election, 3,206 were accredited for voting while 56 votes were voided.
He described the PDP as a family adding that all the contestants should join hands with other members to win the governorship election.
The election which started early in the morning and extended till late in the night was peaceful with tight security provided by Police, Security and Civil Defense and members of Department of state Security.
None of the four contestants was at GMT Hotel, venue of the special Congress of the party when the result of the election was announced.
