Osun 2022: Oyetola Is My Preferred Candidate, Says Basiru

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo
The Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Dr. Ajibola Basiru has reaffirmed his support for the re-election of Governor Gboyega Oyetola in the 2022 governorship election.
Speaking with journalists at his Senatorial office in Osogbo, Basiru, who is the Senate spokesperson noted that the people of the state have benefited from the governance of Oyetola and will benefit immensely if re-elected.
He stated that intraparty crisis within the APC in the state will not deter statutory activities of the party.
His words:  “I am with my party, the All progressives Congress (APC), the party that gave me the mandate to represent it and my people at the general election. I am also with the people of Osun Central, and the people of Osun Central have elected me to represent them both in the National Assembly and politically.
“From my own analysis and development of politics in Osun here today, I believe our people and my people in Osun central will benefit immensely from continuous governance of Mr. Gboyega Oyetola.
“On the issue of primary, you see political parties have its own system and that is why nobody is saying that you are going to be there for eight years, you will have four years and then represent yourself for re-election.
“Part of presentation for re-election is that there will be a primary. The law even envisage that people will challenge the incumbent if they have the capability to do so.
“So if there is anybody, or group that wants to challenge Governor Oyetola, they should come to the primary and challenge the government, but as for me I don’t hide my preference.
“My preference is Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, he is the flag bearer of our party, and we have to secure the mandate of our party in the February 19 primary election and ultimately to work assiduously and ensure his success in the July 16 2022 governorship election. And we are ready that he succeed in a free and fair contest at the election.”
