Osun 7th Assembly: Timothy Owoye Emerges Speaker

The new Osun State House of Assembly members has elected the former majority leader, Hon. Timothy Owoeye representing Ilesa East constituency as the Speaker of the 7th assembly.
On the floor of the Assembly on Thursday, Owoeye, who is the fourth term legislator, was nominated by Hon. Tunde Olatunji of Ife North Constituency, who was one of the front runners for the position and Hon. Elizabeth Abioye of Ifedayo Constituency seconded the motion.
They also elected Hon. Femi Popoola, representing Boripe/Boluwaduro constituency as the Deputy Speaker.
Hon. Babatunde Lekan Olatunji, representing Ife North emerged as the Chief Whip.
Other leaders of the House are:
Hon. Morufu Olarewaju (Irewole State Constituency) as Majority Leader, Hon. Moshood Kunle Akande (Olorunda State Constituency) emerged the Deputy Majority Leader
Hon. Gbenga Ogunkanmi (Ayedire State Constituency) as Deputy Chief Whip and the Minority Leader from PDP goes to Hon. Babajide Kofoworola (Ede State Constituency).
Hon Nasiru Olateju (Irepodun State Constituency) as Central Senatorial Whip, Hon. Babatunde Komolafe emerged East Senatorial Whip, Hon Babatunde Ibirogba as West Senatorial Whip.
In his maiden speech, Owoeye assured that the Assembly shall ensure the enactment and promulgation of laws, through bills and acts of parliament, which will facilitate development of the state and make impacts on the people.
He said, “Our relations with other arms of government will be independently mutual. By this, I mean while our resolve and commitment to foster mutual understanding with other arms of government remains crucial to governance; we will not in any way stop to sustain the ndependence of the legislature as an arm of government.”
The inauguration witnessed dignitaries within Osun State, Governor Gboyega Oyetola and his wife, the Deputy Governor, Gboyega Alabi, Former Deputy Governor Otunba Titi Laoye Tomori, former Speakers of the state house, Osun APC  Chairman, Prince Gboyega Famodun, former and new Senators in the State, political groups among others.
