At the plenary on Monday in Osogbo, the state capital, the amended Osun State Local Government (Administration No.7) Bill 2021 was passed by the state House of Assembly.

The Bill amended Osun Local Government (Administration No.6) Bill and make some changes to the administration of local councils in the state.

Unlike the previous law, the new Bill prescribes the nomination of a Chairman, Vice-chairman, and scribe (Secretary) and one person each from wards in a local government or local council development area.

In Area Council, there shall be an Administrator and one person each from the wards.

The law is to give legal teeth to the planned appointment of caretaker committees to run the affairs of the LG following the expiration of the tenure of the council chairmen a few weeks ago.

With the expiration of their tenures, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola had asked the chairmen to hand over to the most senior persons and vacate their offices.
