The Osun State House of Assembly has suspended legislative activities for a period of two weeks in order to tackle the spread of coronavirus.
Besides, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye has ordered the immediate fumigation and disinfection of the Assembly complex.
The Chairman House Committee on Media and Publicity, Hon. Kunle Akande disclosed this on Tuesday.
Akande noted that the short recess became necessary to enable members of the State Parliament to take a break from the rigour of long legislative activities as well as assist their constituent in post-COVID-19 efforts geared at making their lives better.
He urged all the lawmakers to campaign against the deadly disease and let the people be aware of the COVID 19 pandemic.
Akande also said that the Speaker, in strict compliance with WHO and State Government protocols on the containment of the coronavirus, has ordered the fumigation and immediate disinfection of the Assembly complex.
According to him, “This is a proactive step targeted at curtailing the spread of the coronavirus disease within the House of Assembly complex.
“While we underscore the importance of the legislature in a Democratic setting, we’ve allowed essential administrative work and personnel to run upon disinfection of the premises.
He advised the people of the state to consider using the recently deployed e-parliament platform in getting across to the House of Assembly.
