Osun Can be Viable Under The Right Leadership – Akin Ogunbiyi

By Tunde Oyekola, Osogbo
Inspite of the huge debt incured by the Osun State government under the present administration, the state can still survive and be made viable if the right person emerges as the next governor of the state, a gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Akin Ogunbiyi has said.
Answering questions from newsmen at his Campaign Office located along Osogbo /Gbongan road in Osogbo today (Tuesday) Dr Ogunbiyi said that although the Debt Management Office (DMO) was coming up with conflicting figure on the debt owed by the state, he hoped that the state is still viable because of the resources available in it.
According to him, “If the right person emerges as the next governor of the state, it will return to its virile position and will be great again.”
Ogunbiyi who maintained that the defunct PDP administration under the leadership of former governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola laid a solid foundation for the state said that the then governor did not borrow money to put the state into debt.
Ogunbiyi, a business mogul while declaring his intention to contest the governorship election on the platform of PDP said that he came to rescue the state by providing the right leadership for the people of the state.
He promised to  embark on empowerment programmes for the citizens of the state rather than stomach infrastructure.
According to him,  there is so much hunger in the state saying he is poised to make people empowered and meaningfully engaged.
The Aspirant said that he would promote agriculture in the state adding that he would replicate the large commercial farm he has in his council in other parts of the state so that farmers can learn modern ways of farming.
Ogunbiyi said he is not a new face in the party as believed in some quarters arguing that he had been a member of the party since 2003.
“I have been associating with Osun  PDP since 2003. I was asked to contest for governorship in 2003 but I declined because I felt I lacked the capacity,  experience and power to contest.
“But now,  I am more exposed, educated, and experienced to govern Osun. I am not a new member in PDP. Leadership is about  service. I have therefore donated myself and everything to the service of the state. We need cooperation and support to defeat the power of incumbency in this state,” he said.
He said that he had visited all the aspirants contesting on the platform of the party saying that he admonished them to allow the interest and love of the party to prevail.
He promised to support anyone who won the party ticket stressing that all party leaders and members needed to cooperate before the party could dislodge the incumbent All Progressives Congress in the state.
Meanwhile, the politician has offered schorlaship to the only son of the late staff of the party,  Mrs. Iyabode Olusola Dada.
“The multitude of supporters that thronged the party secretariat went rowdy in jubilation after Ogunbiyi announced that young Oluwaseyifunmi Dada can study to any level he wants under the schorlaship.
Late Iyabo Olusola Dada had died on Thursday 24th of May this year following a protracted illness.
She was a journalist and one of the publicity committee of the Osun PDP.
She is survived by 11 year old Oluwaseyifunmi.
Dr Ogunbiyi, who hails from Ileogbo in Ayedire local government council of the state also donated a 60 seater bus to the party in the state and also promised to distribute rice to Muslim members of the party.
