An Osogbo Magistrate’s Court on Monday ordered that two staff of Iyanu Plastic Industry, Osogbo be remanded at Ilesa Correctional Centre for allegedly stealing some plastic items belonging to the company.
The accused persons: Oyekanmi Abdulkadri (30) and Opeyemi Mustapha (33) were slammed with two-count charge of felony and stealing.
The police prosecutor, Adeoye Kayode alleged that the defendants did conspire amongst themselves to steal plastic items of one Fidudusola Fisayo, the owner of the industry.
The allegedly stolen plastic items, according to the prosecutor, worth N14,800.
Kayode said that the defendants committed the offence on January 22, 2021 at Iyanu Plastic Industry, Osogbo.
He said the offence committed contravened sections 516 and 383 of the criminal code Cap 34 Vol. 2, Laws of Osun state of Nigeria, 2002. But the defendants pleaded not guilty to the allegations preferred against them.
Their defence counsel, B. Y. Dada, prayed the court to grant his clients bail on liberal terms.
But the prosecutor opposed their bail application on the grounds that stealing company’s property is rampant among staff, adding that it might not have been their first time of stealing.
The defense counsel told the court that all the prosecution’s claims were baseless adding that the accused persons are presumed innocent until proven contrary.
In her ruling, Magistrate M.A Awodele, ordered that tbe accused be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre and adjourned the case till February 9, 2021.
