Osun Court Remands Man for Allegedly Raping a Minor

An Osun Magistrate court sitting in Osogbo on Thursday, September 17, ordered the remand of a 30-year-old tailor, Abdulrasaq Sodiq for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.

Sodiq was said to have committed the offence on September 11, 2020, at about 8:00 pm at Sabo Area Osogbo.

The Police prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Kayode alleged that the accused sexually assaulted Olajide Rukayat by having unlawful carnal knowledge with her

He said the offence committed by the accused person is contravened and punishable under section 360 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol ll Law of Osun State 2020.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the allegation preferred against him.

Defence Counsel, Okobe Najite applied for the bail of the accused in the most liberal term. However, the Prosecutor opposed the bail application made by the Counsel claiming that the act is rampant in our society and that granting him bail would send a bad message to the society.

In his ruling, Magistrate Opeyemi Badmus ordered the remand of the accused person in Ilesa correctional centre. He thereby adjourned the matter till October 14, 2020, for hearing and consideration of bail.
