A national Leader of the Yoruba social cultural and political organization, Afenifere, Pa Senator Ayo Fasanmi, has berated the Chief Reuben Fasoranti-led faction of Afenifere for suspending Chief Iyiola Omisore from the group because he worked for All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State.
According a statement by Chief Biodun Akin-Fasae, Publicity Secretary, at the weekend, Ekiti State chapter of Afenifere to the 93-year-old nationalist and the oldest survivor of the Chief Awolowo political legacy, the action was the most embarrassing action taken by anyone or group since the death of the sage.
Pa Fasanmi said it was laughable and disappointing for anyone to desecrate the hallowed name of Chief Awolowo with conservative political tendency as being espoused by the Fasoranti and Ayo Adebanjo group who he described as having crossed the red line.
He said the spirit of Chief Obafemi Awolowo will never forgive whoever must have taken steps to bastardize the legacies he fought for all his life. Senator Fasanmi, who was a member of the House of Representatives in 1964/66 and a Senator in 1979/83 is of the view that the Fasoranti /Adebanjo group must henceforth stop talking on behalf of the Yoruba race, saying they have derailed. According to him they should not put Yoruba race on sale.
The Yoruba race is comfortable with the progressives as being represented by All Progressives Congress, where the Yoruba is having the chunk of appointments, which has never happened even when Chief Obasanjo was president.
He wondered what the so called Afenifere wanted by its anti Buhari posture except they want to tell us they are now against Chief Awolowo legacies of which all Yorubas are still proud to associate with and through many are still winning elections.
Anyway, many of those working for PDP within Afenifere never stood for any elections all through their political life. Pa Fasanmi however congratulated Prince Dayo Adeyeye and Chief Iyiola Omisore on their return to the progressives. He wished them well.
