PDP Leaders Warned Makinde To Stay Away From Osun, Accuses Him Of Destabilisation

    By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo

Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osun State chapter on Thursday stormed the secretariat of the party to protest the alleged interference of external forces in the affairs of the party.

Specifically, the protesters pointed accusing fingers at the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde for interfering in the affairs of the party in Osun.

They also accused the southwest zonal Chairman, Hon Soji Adagunodo of disrupting the party activities using his office.

The party members drawn from all wards in the state were armed with placards with several inscriptions like,  “Osun is not an appendage of Oyo”, “Seyi Makinde, please keep off”, PDP Govs, we love and respect you”, “Ademola Adeleke is our man”, among others.

The protesters were chanting different songs all pointing towards the external influence.

Speaking, a chieftain of the party, Dr Lere Oyewumi said the party is known for its forthrightness.

According to him, the National Working Committee (NWC),  headed by Senator Iyorchia Ayu has started well because they have invited the stakeholders to Abuja

“We have told them our grievances. They have promised us that the governorship primary will be free, fair, just. Yesterday was supposed to be our congress and they had already appointed 93 people to conduct the congress across the local governments in Osun State.

“They arrived Osun State on Wednesday, in the afternoon around 1pm. Five leaders who ought to lead the congress invited us to an hotel where they lodged, and told us that they can’t continue with the congress because they received a court injunction.

“We linked up with Abuja, we found out that it was a lie. That the NWC did not order for the cancelation of the congress. Later in the day, we learnt that Abuja stakeholders had met and postpone the congress officially.

“We want to believe that there are some forces within the PDP who are not interested in us winning this election in Osun State. Unfortunately, they are leaders of the party,  including a governor.

“We demand that all the people they sent here to conduct the congress, none of them should come back here. If we see their faces here on Sunday, they will not live to tell the story,” he said.

Oyewumi, however, called on the  NWC to appoint people who are fair to all stakeholders.

He said: “We learnt that they want to bring the Governor of Adamawa here, that is even worse because when we went for a national convention, he was the convention chairman. What they did us should not be allowed here. They delayed us for almost five hours before our national delegates could be allowed to vote.

“We have presented our letter to the chairman of the party to be transmitted to National Secretariat. Oyo and Adamawa state governors should not be allowed to determine the issues in Osun PDP.

“What happened on Wednesday, we suspect the hand of Governor Seyi Makinde. The way he is acting to us seems he is not interested in our progress. As a governor who is close to us, he is suppose to be helping us but he is not.”
