The Chairman, Council of Owu Obas, Oba Adekunle Oyelude, has brought smiles to the faces of his subjects in Owu Kuta, a community in Ayedire Local Government Area of Osun State by constructing the major road in the town,
The monarch, apart from the construction of the two-kilometre road, also installed 15 poles of solar-powered streetlight on the streets in the town.
Oba Oyelude, while speaking with Punch on Saturday, said he facilitated the two projects through the network of his friends who were based in Abuja.
The monarch said, “ I grew up in the North and I have friends there. I contacted my friends and they agreed to build two kilometres. Each kilometre was awarded at the cost of N32 million.
“They built the first kilometre around March this year and they are working on the second kilometre now. After that, they gave me 15 poles of solar light and these cost N15 million. I allowed them to pick the contractors to execute the project and the contractors did their jobs without interference.
“It is part of my contributions to the development of the town and my people. Rural roads are very important to the development of our economy as a nation. A large percentage of Nigerians are farmers and without good roads leading to their farms, transporting their produce to the point of sale will be very difficult and it might discourage them.”
Oba Oyelude said he constructed the police station in his town, saying the road construction as well as the electricity projects would also enhance security in his domain and would also encourage his subjects to emulate him in developing the town.
He said, “Kuta has founded the principle of service and that is why I am leading by serving my people. This is just the beginning of many more good things to come and I believe that there is going to be a massive transformation of the town very soon.”
