The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Osun State chapter said it has discovered fraud running into several millions of naira against its suspended chairman, Mr. Soji Adagunodo.
Addressing newsmen at the party’s office in Osogbo, the PDP acting Chairman, Mr. Sunday Akanfe, disclosed that the party hired a reputable firm of auditors and financial investigators who discovered the fraud.
He said, “In the last two weeks, at a State Working Committee meeting of our party, we deliberated on the financial stand of our party amongst others, and we resolved that the financial books and records of the party since the beginning of the administration of the suspended Chairman Hon. Olasoji Adagunodo be looked into.
“For this purpose, a reputable firm of auditors and financial investigators was engaged, and it was discovered by the auditors that an amount of money running into hundreds of millions of naira could not be accounted for as there were no vouchers, no receipts, no budget and most especially no resolution of the State Working Committee to back up those financial dealings.”
To this end, Akanfe said a letter has been sent to the suspended chairman alongside the audit report, asking him for an explanation.
He, however, urged members of the public not to misconstrue his action as the existence of crisis in the party.
“Our resolve to put an end to impunity and financial indiscipline within our party are what some of our members have misunderstood and mistaken for crisis within our party. What we are dealing with is the issue of transparency, probity, discipline and accountability.”
Meanwhile, the party has inaugurated a 15-man committee headed by a former state Chairman of the party, Dr Bayo Faforiji, to come up with recommendations regarding the forthcoming Local Government elections in the State.
