The Osun State Police Command has cautioned some irate youths protesting under the guise of #ENDSARS to be civil in handling the matter.
Some youths had stormed Osogbo, the state capital on Friday to protest against the brutality and extortion by SARS and called for its scrap.
While the peaceful protest was ongoing, the operatives of Anti-Robbery Response Squad stationed at the popular Olaiya junction in Osogbo allegedly shoot sporadically in the air to disperse the protesting youths.
Western Post gathered that two among the protesters who could not run away from the scene of the protest were arrested by the police.
The protesters regrouped and thronged the base of the police where their Armed Personnel Carrier vehicle was stationed and demanded the release of their colleagues. Seeing the large number of angry protesters that besieged their base, the operatives bowed to pressure and immediately released the two arrested protesters.
They also went to the State police command where they were throwing pebbles and other dangerous articles into the premises. The irate youths were also alleged to have attacked some policeman on duties elsewhere in town.
They threatened to continue the protest across cities until the IGP scraps or reforms the SARS.
Reacting to the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola said the commissioner of police has complied with the order of Inspector General of Police by suspending operations of SARS.
She urged the youth to stop the breakdown of law and order while they are free to stage a peaceful protest as a matter of their fundamental right.
